Grafham/Buckden Education Centre
The Grafham/Buckden Education Centre provides a unique educational experience at three local sites near Huntingdon: Grafham Water Nature Reserve, the Recycling and Waste Education Centre at Buckden Landfill Site and Brampton Wood Nature Reserve.
Grafham Water Nature Reserve covers 114 hectares and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its large population of wintering water birds such as coot, great-crested grebe and tufted duck. The Wildlife Trust has been involved with the site, owned by Anglian Water, since 1968, and has fully managed the site for the benefit of wildlife and local communities since 1990. The Trust office at Grafham Water houses the Centre manager, an education officer and the reserve warden who manages the nature reserve site and oversees a team of volunteers.
The Recycling and Waste Education Centre at Buckden Landfill Site is run by the education staff of Wildlife Trust in co-operation with Antiwaste Ltd, part of the Waste Recycling Group (WRG). Additional funding and support comes from Cambridgeshire County Council, Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN) and Huntingdonshire District Council.
Brampton Wood is owned and managed by the Wildlife Trust. It is the second largest ancient woodland in Cambridgeshire, and at over 900 years old is a fantastic site for the Trust's education programmes.
