What's on?

“Magical Meadows” during 2008 the Huntingdonshire Local Group visited several Trust reserves including Upwood Meadows where we held an Open Day. Members of the committee enjoying a well earned rest at the end of the day.

“Wonderful Woodlands” in 2009 we focused on woodlands, including a special visit to the South Cambridgeshire woodlands such as Hardwick Wood, shown here in summer.

In 2010 we will follow the theme of “Wonderful Wetlands” such as Ramsey Heights where we will hold our annual BarBQ on the 14th August 2010, starting at 5pm together with the Ely Local Group. This will include guided walks around the nearby Great Fen and an evening looking and listening for creatures of the night.

Huntingdonshire Local Group

The Huntingdonshire Local Group is made up of members of the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough. It is local, run by local people, for local wildlife and to further the aims of the Wildlife Trust in the area.

Everyone is welcome to attend meetings and events organised by the group. It’s not necessary to be a member of the Wildlife Trust to join in with the Huntingdonshire Local Group activities, however, if you do join your annual subscription directly benefits local wildlife. Why not join now?

There are a number of ways to get involved:

  1. Join the committee – regular committee meetings are held to discuss and organise the programme of events and activities
  2. Come along to winter meetings – learn about wildlife through illustrated talks and meet local people
  3. Come along to summer events – visit our local reserves, identify plants, learn about habitat conservation or just join in on one of the social events
  4. Join a work party – there is always plenty of practical work to do on our nature reserves. Click on the work party link opposite.

For all events and activities organised by the Huntingdonshire Local Group, please see Events.

Nature reserves

There are 18 Wildlife Trust Nature Reserves in the Huntingdonshire area and their location is shown on the map below. They cover three of the main habitats that are especially important in this part of England including meadows (light green), woodlands (dark green) and wetlands (blue). In the last two years we focused on “Magical Meadows” and “Wonderful Woodlands”. In 2010 our walks and talks have a “Wonderful Wetlands” theme.

Most of the reserves have volunteer wardens and work parties are held during the winter .
