Leaving a legacy
Remember and be remembered
Many of us have special memories of times spent in the countryside, as well as a real wish to see wildlife protected for future generations. Leaving a legacy to The Wildlife Trust is one way in which you can make a lasting difference to something close to your heart.
When you’ve provided for your family, will you consider remembering the Wildlife Trust in your will?
Anyone can leave a legacy
You don’t have to be wealthy! Small or large, legacy gifts are vital in helping The Wildlife Trust protect wildlife for the future, whether by acquiring or expanding nature reserves, looking after existing ones, or helping the next generation to learn about wildlife.
Leaving a gift to The Wildlife Trust is a lovely way to be remembered, and depending on the size of your estate, can be tax efficient too — legacies left to charity are generally exempt of Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax.
A residual legacy — the amount left over once all other legacies expenses have been paid — is a good way to ensure your gift isn’t affected by inflation.
Even if you’ve already written your will, adding an extra section, called a Codicil, is usually simple process that your solicitor will be able to advise on..
In recent years, legacies have helped The Wildlife Trust to:
- buy an area of arable land next to Waresley Wood, which links together two ancient woodlands. This is a crucial step towards creating a South Cambridgeshire Forest filled with birds, insects, fungi and rare flowers
- protect nature reserves against development such as at Storton’s Pits in Northamptonshire, which was threatened by a planning application to build a road through it
- introduce more children to their local wildlife through school and group visits, allowing them to experience the natural world around them and inspiring a lifelong love of wildlife and the countryside.
If you’re thinking of leaving a legacy to the Wildlife Trust and would like to chat about it, or would like us to send you some more information, please call Liz on 01954 713555 or email Liz.Proctor[at]wildlifebcnp.org
PS. If you’ve already remembered the Trust in your will, thank you. If you would like to let Liz know, we’d love to be able to thank you personally, as well as helping us plan for the future.
