Making a will
Your will enables you to plan ahead for the people, places and causes you care about. Making a will leaves matters simple and straightforward for your family. If you die without a will, your affairs can take months or even years to settle and the associated legal costs can be high.
If you need to make a will you should talk to a solicitor – a relative or friend may be able to recommend one. Using a solicitor ensures that your will is legally correct and that all your wishes are clear.
If you have already made a will and would like to add a legacy gift to The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough, your solicitor will add your request to your existing will. This is known as a Codicil.
Different types of gift
A legacy gift can be made in several different ways, which your solicitor will explain in detail so you can decide wish is best for you:
A share of your estate - You may chose to specify fractions or percentages of your estate or the residue (balance left) after other gifts and commitments have been made.
A specific gift of money – You can preserve the value of a cash legacy by linking it directly to the Cost of Living Index. This will avoid inflation causing a loss in value of your legacy gift.
A named item – for example a property or stocks and shares.
The contents of your will are, of course, confidential. If you have left The Wildlife Trust a gift in your will and would like to let us know or if you would like any further information about leaving a gift to the Trust in your will, please write to us or email us. Please be assured this information will be kept in confidence.
Knowing about your plans gives us the opportunity to thank you, during your lifetime, for remembering local wildlife in your will.
