The Great Outdoors Project
Have your say on Nature Reserves in Northamptonshire!
The Great Outdoors is a new and exciting project that will be taking place across Northamptonshire over 3 years; 2009-2012. The project aims to encourage people to enjoy their local greenspaces and value wildlife by becoming more active and involved with nearby nature reserves. The project will particularly focus on local communities and people from under-represented groups including young people, people with disabilities and black and minority ethnic groups.
Five Wildlife Trust reserves are included in the project:
- Lings LNR, Northampton
- Storton’s Pits, Northampton
- Kingsthorpe Meadow, Northampton
- King’s Wood, Corby
- Summer Leys, Wellingborough
We want our nature reserves to be accessible to everyone, so a big part of the project is finding out what YOU think about them.
In our first year we are working on and around Lings and Summer Leys, and over the next few months will be trying to speak to as many people as possible to discover what people enjoy about these reserves, and what people think we could improve on.
Following this we will be running a series of events and activities based on what you have told us you would like to be able to do at our reserves.
We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts and would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to fill out our questionnaire.

During February, open mornings will be held at both reserves where visitors will have a chance to chat to staff about the project and the sites, and to fill out a visitor survey.
The Lings drop-in session will be held on Saturday 13th February, 10am – 1pm, at the onsite education centre.
The session at Summer Leys will be held on Saturday 20th February, 10 am – 1pm, on the meadow near the car park.
In addition to these organised sessions, staff will also be doing regular walks around the reserves throughout the month.
