Cambridge school children fundraise for local wildlife
The Perse Prep School boys get sponsorship by 'promising' to help the environment
Pupils at The Perse Prep School in Cambridge celebrated ‘Science Week’ this year by raising £443 for the local Wildlife Trust.
During a special assembly of pupils, parents and staff, Linda Marshall, community fundraising officer, invited the boys to take part in fundraising by asking family and friends to sponsor them to keep an ‘Environmental Promise’ for the two weeks leading up to their school Science Week.
The boys were asked to help protect wildlife and the environment by signing up to one or more of the promises, which included ‘I promise to turn off the tap when brushing my teeth’ and ‘I promise not to throw litter on the ground’. The promises were written on to leaf shaped paper with The Wildlife Trust badger logo and were attached to a picture of a large tree at the school entrance.
Linda Marshall said, “I am truly impressed by the enthusiasm and efforts of the pupils to spread this vital message about climate change and how we can all do something to help. We are very grateful to everyone at the school who made this possible. The Perse Prep School’s fundraising will continue to help The Wildlife Trust protect and improve habitats for wildlife and raise awareness about the environment.”
At the end of the two weeks, some of the pupils gave special presentations about the environment, the need to look after our precious world and the changes people can make to help reduce our impact.
