Attention knitters!
Make money for meadows this Christmas
The Nude Ewe project, which sells yarn from Wildlife Trust Hebridean sheep grazing at Pegsdon Nature Reserve in Bedfordshire, is now selling knitting kits in time for Christmas.
The simple patterns were designed specifically for the Nude Ewe project. Each knitting kit includes wool, instructions and a pair of recycled needles that were saved from landfill. You can choose from wrist warmers, a teddy bear, a hat and a bag, with more designs becoming available soon. The wool is not from local flocks, but is still undyed, unbleached pure British wool spun in Cornwall.
The proceeds from each sale go back to the Wildlilfe Trust to offset their yearly shearing costs. The long term vision is to open the scheme up to other local graziers, who will get back proceeds in proportion to the amount of fleece they submitted for spinning. Two local graziers have already signed up to the scheme and yarn from Wensleydale and beulah speckled-face breeds will be available in the new year.
