An exclusive photography competition with a Wildlife At Work theme has uncovered some industrious local photographic talent.
The competition was for staff of local businesses, which support The Wildlife Trust. It was launched over the summer to encourage workers to get out and about spotting and snapping local wildlife.
Caroline Prout, Corporate Partnerships Manager at the Trust said: “The response was fantastic – we had over 25 entries. This was the first time we have run this competition so we really didn’t know what to expect. The quality of the entries was really high, which was great but it did make the competition much harder to judge!”
The eight winning entries came from staff at Taylor Walton LLP and Unilever, both based in Bedfordshire, and Cambridge University Press. They have been turned into a virtual greetings card box set available at www.charitygreetings.com.
Sales of the e-cards will generate income for The Wildlife Trust helping them to look after local nature reserves across the area. Christmas cards supporting the charity will also be available at the same site.
Tracy Harris, who works at Taylor Walton LLP, says "This competition was a great opportunity for all staff to find out more about and get more involved in Taylor Walton's corporate support of The Wildlife Trust. I am delighted my photo of a dragonfly was chosen as one of the winning pictures."
Alan Heath is the winner from Unilever. His winning entry was of a hoverfly: “It’s great to be a winner in this competition and have my pictures of local wildlife on e-cards being sent; perhaps all round the world this Christmas. It has also brought to my attention the great work that the Wildlife Trust is involved in and the activities they hold. I may join in with a few and hopefully bag some more great shots”.
Cambridge University Press said that they were “proud to work closely with The Wildlife Trust as one of our community partners – our staff really enjoy volunteering on various projects with them. It was also great the way our staff got behind this competition and we’re delighted that one of them, Tom Crofts, was a winner with his beautiful photographs of a robin and a bee pollinating a flower”

Bringing people together to take action for wildlife is the Trust’s mission. We manage 129 nature reserves - all of them free to visit – and 95% of the population live within five miles of one of our reserves. We are working to make these wildlife havens bigger, better and more joined-up – vital to help wildlife to adapt to a changing climate. By gathering valuable information about wildlife and working with other landowners the Trust also monitors and safeguards wildlife beyond the boundary of its reserves.
The Wildlife Trust runs a membership scheme for local businesses which helps support the work of the trust. Members receive regular publications, invites to exclusive events, regular competitions for their staff to get involved with and acknowledgement in trust publications and website. The trust currently has over 70 corporate members.
