What’s new?

06 November 2009

Exciting new opportunities for wildlife fans

Blossoming botanists and budding birders are invited to learn more about the natural history and varied wildlife and habitats of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire

If you are interested in wildlife but have always wanted to know more then why not attend one of your local Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Training Workshops

The 2010 programme has just been released and includes everything from beginner’s classes in wildlife, introducing the wildlife of a particular county and revealing the natural history of bats, to more advanced birdsong identification or digital photography, there’s even pond dipping for adults.

There’s workshops taking place across the three counties so there’s bound to be something to whet your wildlife appetite!

Juliette Butler, Wildlife Training Workshops officer, says “We have such a wide range of workshops on offer for next year and we’re expecting them to be really popular. There are courses suitable for enthusiastic novices and some for wildlife experts keen to hone their skills”

Due to demand there are more bird-related courses this year and following the success of the “Beginning with County Wildlife” workshops in 2009; we have incorporated three more for the 2010 programme. These workshops are aimed at people who are new to a particular area, new to the Wildlife Trust, or people who just want to know more about their local wildlife. In addition to presentations, these workshops include a short guided walk around a reserve. Ideal for people who want to start learning about natural history, and don’t know where to start.

An introduction to Mosses and Liverworts, Wildflowers of Woodland, Water Bug Identification and Beetles Associated with Dead Wood are just some of the new additions to next year’s programme.

The courses are competitively priced with a day course costing between £20 and £28 for individuals. They are free for key Wildlife Trust volunteers, such as reserve wardens and those who carry out wildlife monitoring on our reserves. Professionals from environmental organisations pay £115 for each course.

Notes to Editor

Bringing people together to take action for wildlife is the Trust’s mission. We manage 129 nature reserves - all of them free to visit – and 95% of the population live within five miles of one of our reserves. We are working to make these wildlife havens bigger, better and more joined-up – vital to help wildlife to adapt to a changing climate. By gathering valuable information about wildlife and working with other landowners the Trust also monitors and safeguards wildlife beyond the boundary of its reserves.
