Local Wildlife set to benefit from shoppers’ generosity
Thanks to customers at Waitrose in Ampthill, The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire has received a cheque for £550.
The store runs a ‘Community Matters’ campaign where shoppers receive a token when they shop and they then choose which of three local charity boxes they put the token in.
Every month stores distribute £1000 with the number of tokens in each box deciding what share of the money each charity should get.
Customers nominated The Wildlife Trust and it was chosen by the store’s workers. So you never know, with your support, The Wildlife Trust could be the chosen charity in a Waitrose near you!
The money received will be spent on protecting wildlife close to home on our 29 nature reserves in Bedfordshire.
John Comont, Conservation Manager for Bedfordshire, received the cheque on behalf of the Trust, along with Roger Christopher, Treasurer of the Flit Vale local group – a group of Wildlife Trust members who support and promote the charity in the area.
John said, “This is a fantastic contribution from the Waitrose Ampthill customers and I would like to thank them for nominating The Trust and for their generosity in supporting us through the ‘Community Matters’ scheme. The fact that more than half of the £1000 pot was donated to The Wildlife Trust goes to show how important the local environment and wildlife is to people - they care for wildlife even when they’re doing their weekly shop! The money will be used to pay for much needed work to improve wildlife habitats across the county. ”
