Go Wild in Peterborough!

If you care about wildlife then this is your chance to get involved in direct action!

The Wildlife Trust is looking to recruit new Local Group members to help support the work of the Wildlife Trust in Peterborough as part of the Peterborough Go Wild Project.

The Go Wild Project is a partnership between The Wildlife Trust, Perkins and the Caterpillar Foundation, which has provided more than £20,000 to The Wildlife Trust to bring wildlife and communities together in Peterborough.

If you have an interest in wildlife and you care about your local environment then this is your chance to get involved. We already have a strong group of people supporting, and volunteers for the roles of Treasurer and Secretary, but vitally still need a Chairperson to be able to establish formally. Could this be you? Other roles include Events / Programme Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Practical Tasks / Conservation Secretary.

Becoming a Local Group member is an exciting way of getting involved in wildlife and meeting new people with a common interest. Members can assist with a range of activities such as practical conservation work on nature reserves, helping to raise funds for Wildlife Trust projects and spreading the word about wildlife and the Trust. All members have a common goal of encouraging new people to support the Wildlife Trust.

As a charity Local Groups play a vital role in the Trust’s work and are formed to support its work in a variety of ways. They share a common purpose with all volunteers and staff: to support the Trust in its main goal to protect wildlife and habitats.

There are enormous benefits including being able to visit and learn about your local nature reserves, take part in a variety of talks, walks and other events. Also members can be trained in how to record and monitor wildlife and can undertake free Wildlife Trust training workshops. Additional benefits include meeting like-minded people and making a positive contribution to your local environment.

The Wildlife Trust

Bringing people together to take action for wildlife is the Trust’s mission. We manage 129 nature reserves - all of them free to visit – and 95% of the population live within five miles of one of our reserves. We are working to make these wildlife havens bigger, better and more joined-up – vital to help wildlife to adapt to a changing climate. By gathering valuable information about wildlife and working with other landowners the Trust also monitors and safeguards wildlife beyond the boundary of its reserves.

The Go Wild Project

Thousands of people throughout Peterborough will have the opportunity to enjoy and discover local wildlife, thanks to a developing partnership between The Wildlife Trust, Perkins and the Caterpillar Foundation. The project will bring a host of activities for everyone to get involved with.

Called the Go Wild Project, this innovative scheme was launched in 2006 to ensure Peterborough’s communities have the opportunity to enjoy the wildlife on their doorsteps. The project, which will further develop this year thanks to the latest wave of funding of over £20,000 which has been provided by the Caterpillar Foundation will help bring wildlife and communities together in Peterborough through community events, volunteering opportunities, school visits and outreach work.

Wildlife Trust Local Group

There are currently 14 Local Members Groups. Local groups play a vital role within the Trust. Formed to support its work, they help the Trust in a variety of ways. No two groups are exactly the same, however, they share a common purpose with all volunteers and staff: to support the Trust in its main goal to protect wildlife and habitats in our three counties.

Perkins
