Discover the local nightlife!
Saturday 28 August is European Bat Night and the Wildlife Trust is organising guided evening walks on several nature reserves, revealing the nightlife of our local bats.
This year bat walks will take place simultaneously on reserves including Flitwick Moor in Bedfordshire, Cambourne and Woodwalton Fen in Cambridgeshire, the fantastic flooded gravel pits at Summer Leys in Northamptonshire and Stibbington in Peterborough.
A walk will also take place at Pitsford Water in Northamptonshire on 29 August.
As part of the events, local volunteers will demonstrate methods for surveying for bats and identifying them using ultrasound detectors. The Trust will also be liaising with other the organisers of bat events across Europe, comparing the data on bats gathered on the night.
So why not join staff and volunteers for an illuminating evening’s experience searching for bats on their night-time hunting trips and learn more about their world and see some of the latest bat detection equipment in action?
Henry Stanier, Ecology Groups officer of the Wildlife Trust for Befordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough said: “To hear a bat shouting so loud it could to deafen itself is an amazing experience and with the use of an ultrasound detectors we can open up the fascinating world of our out local night life.”
All walks start at 8.15pm and last approximately 1½ hours. Price £3 per person. To book your place phone 01954 713519, email ecologygroups@wildlifebcnp.org
