New addition to nature reserve and educational centre in memory of staff member
A nature inspired wood carving has been unveiled at a nature reserve and educational centre in Stewartby, Bedfordshire.
Visitors to the The Wildlife Trust’s Randalls Farm in Stewartby, Bedfordshire will be able to see the new addition which has been added as a memorial to staff member Lawrie Clarke, who passed away last March after 11 years at the centre.
The nature inspired artwork, by Tim Atkins of Chain Creations, is affectionaly referred to as ‘Lawrie’s Log’. The carving, from a sweet chestnut tree previously at one of the Wildlife Trust’s other nature reserves in Northamptonshire, shows an owl and badger and marks the entrance to the pond dipping area and sensory garden.
Su Jenkins used to work alongside Lawrie and said:
"He inspired a lot of people of all ages; his enthusiasm for wildlife was infectious and boundless. The wood carving was possible after a collection which included contributions from staff, volunteers, people who used the centre like community groups and those from other organisations too; everyone wanted to do something to mark Lawrie’s time at the Trust. This is a very fitting tribute and it’s in just the right place- overlooking this wonderful nature reserve which he loved”.
