HSBC banking on Wildlife Trusts
HSBC is supporting wildlife across the east and southeast of England by taking part in a pioneering regional corporate membership scheme that will see the bank join six Wildlife Trusts as a corporate member.
As well as providing financial support for each of the Trusts involved, the scheme will also benefit wildlife in a more hands-on way: HSBC staff members will be encouraged to take the opportunity to leave their desks and get their hands dirty by joining special conservation work party days on some of their local Wildlife Trust reserves.
Caroline Prout, Corporate Partnerships Manager for the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough Wildlife Trust explained: “Much of the conservation work that needs to be carried out on our nature reserves, such as clearing scrub or coppicing woodlands, is very labour intensive, which makes the role of volunteer corporate groups, like these from HSBC, crucial in protecting and managing our reserves.”
Chief Executive of the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough, Brian Eversham, added: “The support of our corporate members is vital to the work carried out by the Wildlife Trusts. Given that wildlife doesn’t recognise county boundaries, it’s great that HSBC have chosen to support the work of not just our Wildlife Trust, but also five other Trusts across the region.”
Siobhan Gower of HSBC explains that “we look to promote environmental education and understanding among our colleagues and local communities and we encourage employees to become involved in volunteering projects that support the communities in which the bank operates. HSBC is pleased to support the Wildlife Trusts as our beliefs fit well with the Trust’s educational programme and aim of “bringing people together to take action for wildlife”'.
