What do YOU think of Northampton’s nature reserves?

The Wildlife Trust would love to hear your views and experiences of visiting two Northampton reserves – Kingsthorpe Meadows and Storton’s Pits.

Kingsthorpe Meadows is a 15ha (37 acre) Local Nature Reserve, located between the Kingsthorpe and King’s Heath areas of Northampton on the Brampton arm of the River Nene. The river, ponds and grasslands found here support an extensive range of plants and animals, including a variety of birds which feed and nest here, as well as numerous species of dragonfly and damselfly.

Storton’s Pits is a 23ha (58 acre) Local Nature Reserve, located near the Northampton Town Football Club Ground along the Nene Valley. Storton’s Pits was worked from the 1920s until the late 1970s and when gravel extraction stopped, scrub and grassland habitats began to develop naturally, providing shelter and food for small animals such as mice and voles, as well as a variety of insects and other invertebrates.

The Great Outdoors Project aims to encourage people to enjoy their local green-spaces and value wildlife by becoming more active and involved in their local nature reserves. A consultation is now open and we want to know what you think of the reserves and how they can be improved to make them as accessible and welcoming to people as possible.

The surveys can be accessed using the links below. We would very much appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes filling out our survey, even if you have not visited either of the reserves, your opinions are still extremely valuable.
