Volunteer Wildlife Watch leaders
Location: John Dony Field Centre, Luton
Commitment: One meeting per month, plus planning time
The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough is among the largest of 47 Wildlife Trusts across Britain and a major contributor to the nationwide work of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Our mission is to bring people together to take action for wildlife.
Wildlife Watch is the junior branch of the Wildlife Trust, and is one of the UK’s leading environmental clubs for young environmentalists. Children aged 8 - 12 can take part in wildlife projects by getting involved with Wildlife Watch groups, and join as subscribing members of the Trust to receive magazines and posters.
There are 20 Wildlife Watch groups across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough. Each Watch group is run by two fully registered Wildlife Watch Leaders and one helper.
We are currently looking for volunteers who would like to register as Watch leaders for our existing Luton Watch group. Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for:
- helping to deliver an exciting and inspiring programme of Wildlife Watch meetings for children in your area
- recruiting children to your local group and organising a programme of activities
- running safe & enjoyable meetings, ensuring child welfare & safety policies are put into practice
- promoting Watch membership and liaising regularly with the local Wildlife Watch officer
As a registered leader, you will have free access to the Trust’s Wildlife Training Workshops, first aid training and an annual conference as well as receiving a leader’s manual and activity packs.
You will have an interest and enthusiasm for wildlife and working with children. It is essential that you have a sense of responsibility and discipline. You will also need to complete an enhanced CRB check and obtain two references. You will have with strong communication skills, sound judgement, and a mature, pragmatic and flexible approach.
